How to actually size your bathroom infrared heaters
Getting the wattage right for your bathroom isn’t rocket science, but if you wing it, you’re going to have a bad time. Too little power and you’re still shivering in your towel. Too much, and you’re basically turning your ceiling into a toaster—which wastes money and can actually damage your ceiling materials.
Figuring out the power you need
It mostly comes down to how much space you’re dealing with. If you’ve got a tiny powder room (under 4m²), a low-wattage unit usually does the trick. But for a full bathroom (somewhere between 6m² and 10m²), you’ll want something beefier. Or, better yet, a few smaller lamps spread out. Here is the cool part: infrared doesn’t bother heating up the air. It sends heat straight to your skin and the floor. That’s why you feel that “instant warmth” the second you flip the switch. Just keep an eye on your ceiling height. The higher the ceiling, the more that heat spreads out before it hits you, so you’ll need a higher wattage to make up for the distance.
The “Hot Spot” problem
It’s tempting to just buy one massive 1000W+ lamp and call it a day. Don’t do that. When you go too high on a single unit, you get a brutal temperature difference. You’ll feel like you’re being scorched from above while your toes are still freezing. **The pro move?**Use a few lower-wattage lamps spread across the ceiling. It creates a much more natural, cozy feel. One more thing: check your wiring. These lamps pull a decent amount of current. If your wires are too thin, you’ll get voltage drops, and your heaters won’t even reach the temperature they’re supposed to. It’s worth having a pro double-check the gauge.
Stop wasting electricity
These heaters are built for quick bursts of heat, not for running all day. Leaving them on for hours is just throwing money away. Stick a motion sensor or a simple timer on them. That way, the room is toasty exactly when you need it, and the power cuts off the moment you leave. It keeps the bills low and your bathroom comfortable.
