Let’s be honest: standard heaters are useless in places like gym locker rooms or industrial wash-down bays. They just can’t handle the damp. Water gets inside, things short out, and your heating elements burn out way faster than they should. We fixed this by putting shortwave infrared tech inside an IPX5-rated shell. In plain English? It means you can hit the unit with water jets from pretty much any angle and the electrical guts stay bone-dry.
Why Infrared?
Here is the cool part: these heaters don’t actually bother warming up the air. Instead, they send energy straight to your skin and the surfaces around you. It feels like stepping into sunlight on a crisp autumn morning. You don’t have to sit around waiting for a convection heater to slowly push warm air across the room. You flip the switch, and you feel the heatinstantly.
The Nitty-Gritty on the Build
The real trick is keeping water out without trapping too much heat inside. We use high-temp silicone gaskets and sealed cable entries to keep that water barrier tight. The heating element itself lives in a quartz tube. But we don’t use just any glass—we use tempered quartz. Why? Because when you’ve got a scorching hot lamp in a damp, chilly room, regular glass can shatter from the thermal shock. Tempered quartz doesn’t do that. One quick heads-up: check your circuit breakers. These units pull a lot of power when they first kick on. If you’re installing a whole row of these in a commercial space, make sure your wiring gauge is thick enough. You don’t want a voltage drop making your heaters underperform.
A Few Things to Keep in Mind
Because of that protective housing, these units are a bit bulkier than a bare lamp. They aren’t “slim,” so make sure your mounting brackets can handle the extra weight. Also, a word of caution: “water-resistant” isn’t the same as “waterproof.” You can’t dunk these underwater. If you mount them too low where they’ll get blasted by a pressure washer every day, those seals will eventually give up. **Keep them overhead.**You’ll get a better heat throw, and the units will last way longer.
