If you’re putting a heater in a bathroom or somewhere outdoors where it gets damp, you’ve got one main enemy: water. That’s why we go with IP66-rated enclosures. It’s basically a fancy way of saying we’ve sealed the thing up tight so dust and high-pressure water jets can’t sneak in and fry the electrical terminals. But the box is only half the story. The real danger is actually the heating element itself.
Why “Explosion-Proof” Glass Matters
Here is the thing about standard quartz tubes: they hate cold water. If a stray drop hits a tube that’s running at 800°C, it can shatter instantly. It’s called thermal shock, and it’s a mess. To stop that from happening, we use explosion-proof quartz glass. It’s built to handle those wild temperature swings without cracking. And if a tube does happen to fail? The glass is designed to stay contained or break into tiny, dull pieces instead of sending sharp shards flying across the room.
The Tech Side of Things
Most of these units use shortwave infrared. I love this tech because it doesn’t bother heating up the air around it—it goes straight for the object. It means you feel that warmth the second you flip the switch, even if you’re standing in a drafty backyard. Just a heads-up on the setup: we use reinforced seals to keep that IP66 rating solid, but you’ll need to check your wiring. These high-wattage lamps pull a lot of power right at the start. If your circuit breaker is too small, you’ll be walking over to the fuse box the moment you turn the heat on.
A Few Things to Keep in Mind
These heaters aren’t as sleek as the ones you put in a living room. Because of the thick glass and heavy-duty gaskets, they’re a bit bulkier and heavier. They’ll take up more space on your wall or ceiling. Also, remember that while the lamp is safe, the housing still gets hot. Give it some breathing room—at least 30cm away from anything that could burn—so you don’t end up with scorched walls.
