
Why Your Outdoor Heaters Actually Need IP65 Protection
If you’ve ever put a heater outside, you know the two things that want to kill it: damp air and sudden temperature swings. Here is the real problem. When a tiny drop of cold rain or a bit of heavy fog hits a glowing hot quartz tube, the glass doesn’t just cool down—it can snap. Just like that. Total failure. We built our IP65-rated heaters specifically to stop that from happening. What does “IP65” actually mean for you? In plain English, it means the unit is totally sealed against dust and can handle water jets hitting it from any direction. We didn’t just slap a cover on it. We used industrial-grade gaskets and moisture-resistant cable glands to lock everything down. This keeps humidity from sneaking into the wiring. In cheaper units, that moisture creeps in, causes a short, and you’re left with a dead heater and a corrosion nightmare. Not here. Stopping the “Snap” To keep those quartz tubes from shattering, we had to get smart with the shape of the heater. We angled the reflectors so water just slides right off instead of pooling around the ends of the lamp. We also added specialized seals where the lamp meets the frame. It keeps the splashes away from the electrical bits. It comes down to physics. Water on a hot lamp creates a “cold spot.” That massive temperature difference puts a huge amount of stress on the glass. If the glass isn’t built for it, it breaks. Our design takes that pressure off. The Trade-offs I’ll be honest with you: better protection means a bit more bulk. An IP65 housing is larger than some open-air heater you might see. Because it’s sealed tight, the internal electronics also breathe a little slower. One quick tip: just make sure your mounting brackets are sturdy. The reinforced casing adds some weight, and you don’t want it sagging over time. But here is the payoff. We built these for places where the weather is brutal. By keeping the elements away from the heating element, the lamps last way longer. And that means you spend a lot less time climbing ladders to replace broken parts.
