Trying to heat a locker room or a shower area is a bit of a nightmare. You’re fighting a constant battle against humidity and random water splashes, but you still want people to feel warm the second they step in. Standard heaters just don’t cut it here—they’ll fry or rust out way too fast. That’s where IP65-rated infrared (IR) tech comes in.
Why IR just works better
Think about those old forced-air systems. They try to heat every single cubic inch of air in the room. It takes forever, and half the heat just vanishes into the ceiling. IR is different. It sends out waves that glide right through the air without warming it up. Instead, they hit a solid object—like a person’s skin or a wooden bench—and turn into heat instantly. It’s the difference between waiting for a room to warm up and feeling the sun hit your face on a cold morning.It’s immediate.
Dealing with the water
You’ll see “IP65” on the spec sheet, but what does that actually mean for you? Basically, the “6” means dust can’t get in. The “5” means the unit can take a direct hit from water jets and keep on ticking. We make this happen by using high-temp gaskets and some pretty tough polymers to seal off the electrical bits. It keeps the moisture out of the circuitry, so you aren’t dealing with short circuits or units burning out after a few months.
The tricky parts
Here is the thing: these units get hot. Really hot. Because we’ve sealed the internals to keep water out, we have to be smart about how the outer casing handles that heat so the mounting brackets don’t warp. You also have to get the height right. If you mount them too low, it’s like standing too close to a campfire—it’s uncomfortable. Too high, and you lose that “instant” warmth that makes the system worth it. When you’re installing these into a commercial space, just treat them as a drop-in replacement. Just make sure you wire them to a dedicated circuit with a proper GFCI breaker. It keeps the power steady and, more importantly, keeps everyone safe in a wet environment.
