
Why Your Infrared Heaters Actually Fail (And How to Fix It)
Ever wonder why an IP65-rated heater just… dies? Most people assume the heating element burned out. But usually, it’s not the element at all. It’s the seal where the electrical wire enters the quartz tube. That tiny spot is the real danger zone. When you’re running things at peak heat, that’s where the battle is won or lost. If that seal isn’t perfect, moisture sneaks in. If the material can’t handle the stress, it cracks. And once that happens, it’s game over.
The problem with “generic” parts
Here’s the thing: a lot of cheap replacement heaters use basic silicone or low-grade epoxies. They look fine on day one, but they can’t take a beating. As the heater goes through thousands of heat cycles—heating up, cooling down, heating up again—those cheap seals shrink or harden. Eventually, they snap. That’s when you get “carbon tracking” or water leaking inside, which leads straight to a dead short. We do things differently. We use OEM-grade sealing that actually expands and contracts at the same rate as the quartz glass. No gaps. No cracks. Just a seal that stays tight, even after years of heavy use.
Keeping things safe
A bad seal does more than just let in a little water. It lets oxidized metal bits migrate toward the live terminals. In a high-voltage setup, that’s basically building a bridge for electricity to jump where it shouldn’t. That’s how you get a short circuit. We spend a lot of time focusing on that transition zone. We make sure the lead-wire is anchored properly so it doesn’t tug on the seal during installation. It sounds like a small detail, but most field failures happen because the wire was pulled just a little too hard, breaking the seal.
One quick tip for installation
There is a trade-off, though. Because our seals are so tight and rugged, the lead-wire is a bit stiffer. Don’t force it. If you try to bend the wire at a sharp angle right next to the tube, you’ll crack the seal. Just give yourself a generous loop when you’re wiring it up. Give the wire some room to breathe, and your heater will last a whole lot longer.
